Midsummer Night's Dream Backyard Wedding

The Barry Inn, a local residence in Red Bank, New Jersey, is well known for its wild parties. It has seen many celebrations, including a wedding decades prior. The backyard has now held its latest big celebration, the wedding of Tiffany and Thomas.

Tiffany had a vision for the space and was inspired by a Midsummer Night's Dream. Handmade purple centerpieces filled the tables, wisteria hung from the tent's foundation, and an arch stood at the back center of the space. The seating chart was made from an outdoor divider, leaves, and multiple frames. For the guestbook, it was filling a book with Instax images. Having the cameras match the color palette was a pleasant touch.

With every backyard wedding, there is always the need to adapt and potentially "pivot." With the tent taking up a large amount of backyard real estate, the ceremony area and reception space consolidated into one. This actually worked out for the better because of the rain creeping in and out throughout the weekend. The bar space became one focal point, which was a tiki hut by a lovely pool patio space. This helped bartenders keep everything they needed in one space, stay dry, and have easy access to the nearby cabana.

The one thing I look for in couples is a way to figure out what makes the wedding yours and yours alone. Tiffany and Thomas blew this assignment out of the water. For photos, not only did they have an Instax station, but they also had a photo booth with a flower wall provided by Mirror Mirror by Dina. With the drinks, they also offered a lemon water and vodka lemonade station upon entry into the backyard. For food, they not only hired caterers, but also a Mister Softy ice cream truck and a pizza truck from Pizza Vita. The pies served as favors on the way out.

Weddings are what you make of them. You can take every obstacle and have it slow you down, or you can find ways to adapt and have fun. For Tiffany and Thomas, they rolled with the challenges of having a backyard wedding, and it worked out in their favor.
